What is the SparkEES Program?

Ignited FellowIgnited’s Spark Early Education STEM (SparkEES) program is a new, paid, summer opportunity that allows local 2nd and 3rd grade teachers to experience innovative workplaces and collaborate with other educators to prototype excellent STEM teaching. SparkEES is one of ten programs that was selected nationally to advance active STEM learning in early education. No prior STEM experience needed!

SELECTED TEACHERS WILL:

  • Earn up to $2,500
  • Gain in-depth experience at a leading STEM workplace in the San Francisco Bay Area
  • Collaborate with other teachers to design new teaching strategies and content
  • Test and refine new tools, content, and experiences for SparkEES
  • Conduct peer observations and build plans to create cultures of active STEM learning
  • Contribute to the development of a national initiative for early educators
  • Participate in one of two summer sessions, then 1-2 hours per month during the school year:
    • Session A: 6/18 – 7/6/18
    • Session B: 7/16 – 8/3/18

Eligibility

Required Qualifications

  • Teach 2nd or 3rd grade in the San Francisco Bay Area
  • 2+ years of teaching experience
  • Planning to continue teaching
  • Administrator support

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teach in a high-needs school
  • Teams (2-4 teachers) from the same school or district
  • Interest in teacher-leadership
