Requirements
- Districts: San Francisco USD
- Position: K-12 teachers and staff. Priority will be given to those teaching students living in the South East District of San Francisco.
- Location: In-person, San Francisco
Explore the hidden science, infrastructure and careers behind San Francisco’s public utilities through a one-week experience designed for K-12 educators across all subject areas in SFUSD. Each day centers on a different San Francisco district, using the city itself as a living classroom to uncover how the need for water and power shape daily life, neighborhoods and the future of the city.
Participants will examine San Francisco’s water and power systems through a variety of interdisciplinary lenses:
- History & Archaeology: Understand how the city’s water and power systems evolved and shaped San Francisco’s growth
- Climate Change & Community Impact: Investigate how utilities, climate resilience and access affect communities across neighborhoods
- Reuse & Sustainability: Learn how water conservation, energy efficiency and reuse strategies reduce environmental impact
- Urban Planning & Seismology: Explore how critical water and power infrastructure is designed to withstand earthquakes and support a dense urban environment
